About Middelburg Toll Plaza

TrAC (Trans African Concessions) was awarded a 30-year Build-Operate-Transfer concession for the 571 km N4 corridor between Hans Strijdom Drive in Pretoria and the Port of Maputo in Mozambique. The Maputo Corridor is a flagship SADC infrastructure project, designed to revitalise economic links between Gauteng and Mozambique's Maputo port after the end of apartheid isolation. Middelburg (eMalahleni) is the hub of South Africa's coal and steel industry, and heavy freight trucks make up a significant share of traffic at this plaza. TrAC introduced contactless tap-and-go card payments at all N4 East plazas in 2024.
